MATSU-CHA is a Japanese Teahouse founded by two Japanese tea-enthusiasts.
Sourcing Our Teas
At MATSU-CHA, we have direct partnerships with many local tea producers in Japan, who are primarily family-run businesses over many generations. Additionally, we also collaborate with a reputable tea wholesaler to offer a wider variety of premium teas. Through regular conversations, visits, and the exchange of ideas, we strive to continuously deepen our understanding of the tea industry, including its current state and the challenges for the future. Our suppliers' unwavering passion and commitment to creating exceptional tea goes beyond words; it is a privilege to partner with them and introduce their creations to our customers in Europe
Organic Farming
The majority of our teas are either certified organic or naturally grown without the use of pesticides or fertilisers. Organic and natural farming practices preserve soil health and nurture local ecosystems, aiding a more sustainable future. Compared to conventional methods, organic farming requires extra processes, hard work and skill to maintain quality results. This often comes at a slightly higher cost but we are proud to support this, as we believe in the positive impact these methods make on our environment and the wellbeing of generations to come.
Thank you for visiting MATSU-CHA!
We are Joshua Takashi and Marin, the creative minds behind this teahouse. Originally from Nagano and Osaka, Japan, we have been living in Europe for quite some time. During the pandemic, we found ourselves missing the taste of home—the comforting smell of hōjicha, the soothing taste of matcha, and the umamipacked sencha. Our longing for these delicious teas inspired us to embark on the journey of creating an authentic Japanese tea house like no other.
We love taking a little extra time to create a decadent tea experience for ourselves. Whether alone or with friends, it is a lovely way to relax, connect, and pause. There are many wonderful teas to discover in Japan, and we cannot wait to share our findings with you and elevate your Japanese tea experiences.
As graphic designers who like to go above and beyond, we could not settle for mediocrity once we delved into the world of tea. We studied the teas, their history, and became official Japanese tea advisors. We researched tirelessly on sustainable packaging, tasted countless samples, visited many producers and teahouses, experimented with numerous recipes and brewing methods, and invested in becoming certified organic food handlers.
We have poured our hearts into MATSU-CHA and are thrilled to finally bring the exquisite world of Japanese teas to you. We hope our teas bring extra joy and deliciousness into your lives.
